In October 2008, the Ubuntu Institute will host fundraising events in New York City, Boston, Massachusetts and Washington DC as part of its international fundraising drive. The USA events are hosted by a newly registered Friends of the Ubuntu Institute 501(c)3 entity with a USA-based board and sponsors/partners. The Friends of the Ubuntu Institute is an affiliate of the Ubuntu Institute in South Africa and aims to promote the valuable work of the Ubuntu Institute and garner support for its social development programmes in HIV/AIDS, education, women empowerment, economic development and youth empowerment.
