HIV/AIDS
HIV/AIDS statistics: Where are we now?
- There are 45 million people estimated to be living with HIV worldwide.
- HIV/AIDS is one of the leading causes of deaths in Sub-Saharan Africa where the prevalence rate among adults has reached 7.2 per cent.
- Life Expectancy for countries such as Botswana, Zambia, and Swaziland are as low as 33 years!
Our HIV/AIDS programs:
- Have a strong focus on the role of culture in HIV/AIDS prevention and care
- Developing culturally sensitive communication tools that people can understand easily, ‘connect with’ and are sensitive to not disrespect culture
- Promote evidence-based solutions through qualitative and quantitative research data
- Investigate ways traditional indigenous institutions can be strengthened to better respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic
- Look into the underlying role of customary law and the impact it has on rights of women
- Investigate how men can be engaged to participate (culturally) to empower women and help in the fight against HIV/AIDS
- Promotes the use of cultural ‘rights of passage’ e.g. initiation schools as an excellent platform to influence behavior change.
What we do
- We provide access to a network of cultural leaders, traditional leaders and members of royal families in the SADC region who we work with to design and implement programs/interventions through a consultative process
- Provide the infrastructure, as a section 21 registered organization, to implement various programs working in a professional manner.
- We have a strong focus on youth and women in all our programs
